Campi Flegrei, meaning “burning fields,” is a large volcanic area located west of Naples, Italy. It’s not a single volcano, but a 13-kilometer-wide caldera, a collapsed volcanic crater formed by a massive eruption tens of thousands of years ago. This makes it a supervolcano, capable of producing eruptions far exceeding those of Mount Vesuvius.
